June Proclaimed LGBT Pride Month

06.01.09

June has been officially proclaimed LGBT pride month by President Barack Obama. People have had mixed opinions on this, with some stating that the move is merely an attempt for the President to win over the gay community with nothing more than words. However you look at it, though, it still gives recognition where it's due. This month will now honor all of those who have sacrificed, so that we may live our lives and continue the struggle for equality.

Website Redesign and more

06.01.09

I have once again redesigned the P.R.I.D.E. website. The new site is more efficient and has a little more color. There are still a few kinks, but try it out and let me know what you think. I'll have the archives up soon, so you'll be able to look at all of my previous random posts.

Also, this site is no longer compatible with Internet Explorer 6 or below. I will not support a browser that is almost a decade old and follows it's own standards, instead of web compliant ones. If you are still using IE6, UPDATE YOUR BROWSER. Ideally with the Mac version of Safari, but Firefox, Google Chrome, and Internet Explorer 7 or 8 are all viable options.

In other news, P.R.I.D.E. has an office again...well, a cubicle at least. It is on the 6th floor of the Arkansas Union, directly across from A-660. You'll recognize it from all of the rainbow paraphernalia. However, office hours won't start until August.

Pride's Mission

The purpose of this organization is to provide supportive, social, educational, outreach, and community events, activities and opportunities for students at the University of Arkansas who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, and straight (GLBTQQS).

PRIDE is a safe and welcoming place in which we focus on the issues facing individuals on campus, in the community and in society, who identify as GLBTQQS.

The goals of PRIDE are to provide a safe and welcoming space and to create a more supportive and inclusive campus climate that encourages the success of all students regardless of sex, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
